Moon on 16th Street

Walking home on a March evening, the moon was full. The bright moon, casting blue gray light over a bare tree resonated with me. I’m using Daniel Smith’s moonglow, paines’ gray, and quinacridone gold. After several washes I’ve put in the tree. More steps ahead. Continue reading

Darkness

So, it is hard to get a really dark value in watercolor. I’ve decided to stop here before I break it with fiddling around. Testing with colored paper, I think a white mat and black frame is best to highlight lights in darkness. Thanks to Bob Witte for the drawing technique, it was for portraits, Continue reading

Lights

On a First Friday event in January, I left the River City Gallery and saw this view on 3rd Street. I was struck by the colors of the historic buildings, but more by the moon and star rising over it all. I’m working on a watercolor, using Daniel Smith moonglow for the sky. Upcoming in 2025

The two of us painted while Jerry started to sashiko stitch the view. I’m deciding that it is finished. I might like it more after it rests. It’s like Continue reading

Pump House

The East Bank Artists held a quick Plein Air event at the Pump House Regional Arts Center. We had 90 minutes to paint a view including some portions of the Pump House. There was a small group due to the 90 degree heat. I found a shady spot though That is a view that captured Continue reading

Leithold’s

It was a cool start to a hot summer day. I was left to myself except for two people wanting to be included. Good idea but it came too late in the process. I’m thinking of a second piece of just a window or part of the building. Maybe hot press paper would take better Continue reading

Downtown Art Around

The River City Gallery sponsors an event called Downtown Art Around during July. I entered two years ago when our Madison house hit the market. Then last year I submitted these. This year I plan to work on this… I hope to capture morning light in the window reflections. Stay tuned. Continue reading

We’ve lived here long enough to be in our second Spring. Each of these flowers are a wonder. What adaption explains the amount of lavender color, following so much white in the spring. Of course these are plants with signs of human impact. We are made of dirt ourselves, Adam means as much. So of Continue reading
