Working Member

River City Gallery is an art market for local artist members. I’ve started as a working member, which has me at the store twice monthly. Today is my first shift. So far I’ve found the light switches and turned on the equipment. We’ll see how it goes with handling the register. My wall space has Continue reading

Life in the window box

Mourning Doves nested and raised two babies in full view of our kitchen window. We have window boxes with lights and greens from Advent that made a good nesting area Yesterday the young ones left the nest for good. It looks like Mom is scouting for a second nest. By the way Mom and Dad Continue reading

Pen or Brush

A fellow artist saw the Belgic Confession quote on my business card and said, “can you change letters to paint brushes?” That is how I think of my art. For example this one from my display at River City Gallery. This is a view from Trempeleau National Wildlife Reserve of the Mississippi River and Minnesota Continue reading

Breaking Light

The Friends of the Trempeleau National Wildlife Reserve hold a Plein Air event every June. There is time to sign up by March 1. Part of the event involves displaying a dozen local artists at Elmaro Vineyards in the topic of the Reserve. Jerry and I took a few walks in the early spring to Continue reading

Plein Air season is over, so what next? Well, painting with grandkids in Galesville. Some sketching. Photos for work inside I’m also taking in drawing sessions at Gallery 1311. I’ll be helping plan the Trempeleau Reserve event in June 2025. In January I’ll have a few things at River City gallery. Unrelated, there is a Continue reading

Mayfly

I saw them on the windows at my gym. Their design is quite sporty, especially the twin tails. If my identification is correct they were Hexagenia limbata, or giant mayfly. I took a picture at a local store, where a living and a deceased mayfly had come to rest. It looked like a good acrylic Continue reading

The Letter Bee

I’ve been asked to participate in a show with the theme of Resonance: What idea struck with a resonance that endures. Cal DeWitt, biologist and environmentalist referenced this quote in a lecture on the spirituality of John Muir. This reference to the Belgic Confession is a statement of two books theology. My artwork appears under Continue reading

Fall Leaves Fall

It could be a simple statement of fact: “Fall leaves fall.” It is what happens every year. It could be a direct request: “Fall leaves, Fall.” as if we could somehow encourage this to happen. I see it as a celebration: “Fall leaves fall!” This installation celebrates the symmetry of drawing from the soil, the Continue reading

Fall Leaves Progress

It’s two weeks to installation. I’m working on layout. And color. This is a sample from using locust bean pods, beets, copper and coffee. The copper extraction paints on clear then changes green. I’m setting the sample out in the sun to see what happens. Next is assembly. Stay tuned. Continue reading
